Curriculum
COLOUR - Achieving the right colour balance is central to any successful interior design scheme, as even the most expensive materials will look cheap and garish if the colours are clashing. Although society admires those who are creative with colour, and successful designers are highly regarded as naturally talented and artistic, the latest research in colour science provides clear directions that anyone can follow. This module will teach you the “secret formula” that can help you to develop an eye for colour that gets right every time!
Style & Design
Fashion is transient, changing with each new season, while real style is timeless, and its enduring quality is testimony to the skill of the designer that created it. It can be quite a balancing act to create a scheme that has lasting appeal, without looking dated or passé. The key to success is knowing how to pick out the key elements that make up a particular style, and incorporating them successfully with decorative details to create a design that is unique in itself and up-to-the-minute.
Surface Finishes
Walls, floors and ceilings are the starting point for any design, and with manufacturers providing more choices than ever before, it can be really exciting to think about all the decorating
possibilities. Yet too much choice can be confusing, and when you are spending your clients’ money, you can’t afford to get it wrong! This section of the course examines the various options available, reveals the advantages and disadvantages of each, and explains how your choice in any one area will impact on your overall design and budget. Once you have this knowledge, you will be able to choose materials confidently to create a design that is practical and appropriate as well as visually pleasing.
Curtains, Blinds & Soft Furnishings
Windows determine the view and amount of natural light that enters your windows, and successful window dressing is as much about framing the view outside, as it is about adding style to the inside. In most of our homes, soft furnishings will be the highest expense after flooring, so you need to select carefully from the multitudes of fabrics and styles available. This module explores the many ways of using fabrics (windows are only the start!), and reveals many tricks of the trade along the way.
Lighting
Lighting is not just an obvious necessity, skillfully used it can draw attention to decorative details and it is a wonderful way to create mood and atmosphere. In this module, you will learn about the different types of lighting (such as ambient, task and decorative...) and how to incorporate these into your scheme successfully so that you can give new light to your interiors!
Professional Presentation
Technical drawing and mood boards are an important part of every designer’s work, not least because they will give you the chance to experiment with various layouts and design options before making any decisions, helping you to avoid problems and expensive mistakes before they occur. They are also valuable communication tools, and this section of the course will show you how to create impressive presentations that will help to sell your ideas and illustrate your ability as a Professional Interior Designer.
Final Project
At the end of the course, students will be asked to complete a Final Project, which will involve designing and communicating an interior scheme for a domestic situation. Receipt of the Limpert’s Academy Diploma in Interior Design will acknowledge your proficiency and as in Interior Designer, and will give you the confidence to go forward and pursue your new career with vigour.
